The Wolverines are State Champions!

The Wood River Wolverines Boys Soccer team defeated the Caldwell Cougars 2-1 on Saturday night to capture the 4A State Championship.

Wood River defeated Skyview in the quarterfinals Thursday and Ridgevue in the semifinals on Friday to reach the final match.

On Saturday night the Wolverines took on the Cougars on a wet field in Caldwell in a steady rain.

The Cougars and Wolverines battled to a scoreless first half. Caldwell struck first halfway through the second half to take a 1-0 lead. Wood River made the lead short-lived, as Giovanni Armenta scored following a Josett Guzman corner kick to tie the game 1-1.

With the clock winding down, the Wolverines pounced, as Audari Tamayo scored the game winner to put Wood River ahead for good, 2-1.
