Artist Brad Johnson will discuss his immersive installation “Lost in Deep Time” in a free lecture at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Sun Valley Museum of Art.

The installation was inspired by the landscapes of Idaho and the Pacific Northwest and composer Andy Akiho’s 2017 piano and string quintet “Prospects of a Misplaced Year.”

The installation is part of the Museum’s “Color of Sound,” which explores how some people perceive sound as a color or shape and are able to translate that into art.

Johnson’s piece envelops visitors in light and sound as it blends Akiho’s 2017 piano quintet with digital environments derived from photographs and scans made in different landscapes ranging from Idaho’s Black Magic Canyon near Shoshone to the glaciers of Washington’s Mount Adams.

The installation uses multiple projections and sound to engulf visitors in light, pattern, imagery and music.

The Museum will close at the end of the day for remodeling, with a projected reopening date sometime in June. Staff will work out of the museum’s Hailey House during the next few months.
