Wood River Orchestra members are gearing up to transport you to the galaxies and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean when they present “A Night at the Movies.”

The free concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Theatre on the Community Campus.

It will feature music from modern Hollywood classics that even youngsters will recognize, such as “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “James Bond,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” And there will be a small surprise gift for Moms and their kids in recognition of Mother’s Day.

Music Director Brad Hershey says he would be thrilled to spot a few Jedi from “Star Wars” and wizards from “Harry Potter” in the audience.

“We are thrilled to bring to our audience the Wood River Orchestra’s first performance made up entirely of music from the movies,” he said. “This is the concert for the whole family! There is something on this program for people of all ages. Bring the whole family and let’s pack the theater!”

Andrew Moffat, an orchestra board member and principal second violin, promises the concert will send audience members off on a high note as warming temperatures herald that spring is finally here.

“We’ve had a great year at the Wood River Orchestra, with record attendance at our holiday concert at the Argyros and our Mozart concert in March. We’re so grateful for the support of the community, and we truly feel that the members of the audience are just as big a part of keeping grassroots music making alive in the valley as the musicians themselves. And we always hope we can inspire audience members to dust off a forgotten instrument and come and join us on stage!”
