The Charlie Russell of Western music will be among the stars during the tenth annual Lost N Lava Cowboy Gathering Friday and Saturday in Shoshone.
Dave Stamey will be singing his “Vaquero Song,” which Western Horsemen Magazine calls one of the greatest Western songs of all time.
The gathering will be held at the Lincoln County Community Center and fairgrounds. It will feature cowboy poets and musicians from throughout the West, as well as a mountain man rendezvous, vendors and open mic sessions.
Free shows begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. Evening concerts begin at 7 p.m. with a pre-show beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Headliner Dave Stamey is the Western Music Association’s seven-time Entertainer of the Year, seven-time Male Performer of the Year and five-time Songwriter of the Year. He has also received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists.
True West Magazine named him Best Living Western Solo Musician four years in a row, and Cowboys and Indians Magazine dubbed him “the Charlie Russell of Western music.”
A member of the Western Music Hall of Fame, he has delighted audiences in 23 states, claiming he prefers to entertain than be stomped by angry horses. Indeed, he has paid his dues as a cowboy, mule packer and dude wrangler.
Also appearing at this year’s gathering is Brigid Reedy, who has been featured at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Neva. For the past six years. An entertainer since age 2, Reedy has wowed audiences with her poetry and Montana fiddle traditions for 16 years.
She will be joined by Johnny “Guitar” Reedy, her little brother. At 13 he assists in arranging music for their repertoire, which encompasses, cowboy, Western swing, gypsy jazz and blues music. And he is said to share a blend of sublime sibling harmonies with his sister.
Making encore performances will be Coyote Joe, the Panhandle Cowboys, Tony Argento, David Anderson, Thatch Elmer and Lynn Kopelke.
The Fall River Boys and The Sawtooth Serenaders will be making their first appearance.
