Craig Johnson, whose New York Times-bestselling Longmire mysteries serve as the basis for the hit Netflix series “Longmire,” will discuss his popular series at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at The Community Library.

Johnson is a Hemingway Writer-in Residence with The Library.

Johnson lives in Ucross, Wyo., a town of 25 people in between Sheridan and Buffalo and within sight of the Bighorn Mountains. Johnson came across the place while delivering horses from the Montana ranch at which he was working while in his 20s.

He is the recipient of the Western Writers of America Spur Award for fiction and his novella “Spirit of Steamboat” was the first One Book Wyoming selection.

The 16 Longmire novels and TV series, which revolve around small-town Sheriff Walt Longmire, are set in the fictional Absaroka County in north central Wyoming and the town of Buffalo in Johnson County, Wyo. They’ve inspired Longmire Days, a multi-day festival in Buffalo packed full of parades, street dances, softball games and writing seminars with Johnson and the cast of the series.

This year’s Longmire Days will be held are held each August—they’ll be Aug.18-21 this year.
