Sun Valley Mayor Peter Hendricks will show up for the Tapping of the Firkin’ at 4 p.m. Friday.

And two days of Oktoberfest will follow with stein hoisting, axe throwing music and, of course, beer.

The Sawtooth Brewery will hold its 11th annual Ketchum Oktoberfest from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16 at Festival Meadows on Sun Valley Road.

Side Hustle will provide the music at 5 p.m. Friday, and Sawtooth Shipwreck will pick up where they leave off at noon Saturday. Travelin’ Miles and Honeybear will perform at 2:30 p.m. and the Sheep Bridge Jumpers at 5 on Saturday.

There’ll be Stein Hoisting—a Bavarian show of strength--at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Friday, followed by more of the same at 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

And the ever-popular Beer Olympics will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday. Gather a team of four to compete for Das Boot in such events as stein hoisting, speed chug, cornhole, axe throwing and flip cup.

In addition, Sun Valley Realtors Give is organizing a Corn Hole Tournament from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday as a fundraiser for the organization’s scholarship fund and its 5B Realtors for Veterans program. The latter assists local veterans with rent subsidies, down payment assistance and house repairs. The former made it possible for the organization to award seven 4-year scholarships to local high school seniors this past year.

All players in the family-friendly tournament will receive lunch and a 16-ounce glass full of beer or root beer. Cost is $50 for two-person teams and competition will be double elimination. Sign up at https://svrealtorsgive.org/events/2023-cornhole/.

Of course, a variety of beverages, including Oktoberfest beer, Lost River Lager, hard cider and wine by the glass will be available. A Sawtooth Brewery Stein must be purchased to buy any drinks, and it it can be reused in the years to come.

A variety of German foods will be available for purchase including schnitzel, bratwurst, bison brat, frankfurter Kale Caesar Salad and pommes frites.
