“Falling Upward,” an exploratory group for older adults, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The day-long retreat organized by the Flourish Foundation takes its name from Richard Rohr’s “Falling Upward” book, which talks about men and women building a strong container full of meaningful contents.

“There are at least two major tasks to human life,” contends Rohr, a Franciscan priest. “The first task is to build a strong ‘container’ or identity; the second is to find the contents that the container was meant to hold.”

The retreat acknowledges that growing older is challenging as bodies grow weaker, people retire from meaningful careers and social circles shrink. But it explores ways to ensure that lives are full, no matter the age.

The day-long retreat will be held from 9 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Boley Studio, 311 Bayhorse Road in Bellevue. It is designed for those 50 and older. It is not a therapy group but a place to explore past and future with others who have experienced a lot of life.

It will be led by Tom Boley, MHSA, a longtime outdoor experiential and wilderness therapy professional, and Melissa Boley, MA Counseling/Psychology, LCPC, and a trauma specialist in private practice.

Cost is $250 per person; a $10 deposit can be mailed to Tom Boley at Boley Studio, 331 Bayhorse Road, Bellevue, ID 83313.
