STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden will close out the summer season with a bit of spice.

The garden will host its annual Gimlets in the Garden with a Spicy Edition accented with a Southwestern cuisine-inspired soiree picnic style.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.

This is a casual affair with a hosted bar featuring spicy gimlet cocktails, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages. Secuestrado, a rock and roll/Latin Americana band with two digital albums to its name, will provide the music.

Live and silent auction items will include a vacation in a Chelsea NYC apartment, while a Sun Valley Resort Challenger Pass will be raffled off. In honor of the latter, the garden will give away prizes for the best onesies—those crazy, retro, funky, lit-up skintight or loose and super dorky one piece ski suits.

Prizes will include SBG membership, Garden Tour tickets and Dark Sky Dinner tickets.

Gimlets in the Garden costs $80, with the proceeds going to the garden.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Once Gimlets in the Garden is over, it will be time to put the garden to bed. Civic clubs, school kids trying to earn community service points…everyone’s welcome. Operations Manager KO Ogilvie will put people to work cutting back beds, pruning trees and performing other tasks .

Groups will be provided snacks and drinks.

To volunteer, email. ko@sbgarden.org.
