Cox Communications Bike Build Sets New Record

On a warm summer evening at Festival Meadow in Sun Valley, ten youngsters had their dreams come true.

And all it took was seven minutes.

Cox Communications held its second annual Bike Build, giving away Scott mountain bikes to the young people, who were selected by community members.

The Chamber, YMCA, Cox, Sturtevants, Mountain Rides, Club Rides, Blaine County School Board, The Advocates, Blaine County Drug Coalition, Hotel and other organizations built the bikes in a friendly competition in which each team tried to assemble its bike before the others.

Last year the Ketchum/Sun Valley Firefighters Association assembled theirs in 11 minutes. This year The Limelight Hotel/Four Mountain Sports team managed to complete the task in just over four minutes.

We put this event on to give these young people an opportunity to experience the freedom of riding bikes and to help them gain independence, said John Lewis from Cox Communications.

Mountain Rides and Safe Routes to School provided helmets for the new bike owners.

The event was held in conjunction with the 10th annual Sun Valley Road Rally, a benefit for the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition.
