Empty Bowls Tops Itself

Wednesday, January 22, 2020

The soup was barely on when they began lining up at the Church of the Big Wood, salivating at the prospects of bowls full of Rasberrys Green Chili Chicken Posole or CK’s Indian Red Lentil.

Red Hat Society representatives Sharon Haugen, Judy Fox, Judy Wampler and Judy Kildare showed up in their purple outfits and red hats. Kinley Rossback and Ruby Gallegos happily spooned their soup out of heart-shaped bowls someone had made. Jack Sept, who has a set of 14 bowls at home between himself and his wife, latched on to the first-ever ribs served at the event—provided by Warfield Distillery and Bar.

And, by the time the tenth annual Empty Bowls was over, a record crowd had availed themselves of all but a few of the 400 bowls community members had made at Boulder Mountain Clayworks to raise money for the Hunger Coalition. Check out the social event of the week as Eye on Sun Valley’s Karen Bossick takes you to the scene.
