Wood River High School Senior DJ Gralenski may have his hockey skates planted in Idaho. But recently he performed an amazing goal for his high school hockey team known as “The Michigan.” The move is actually borrowed from lacrosse where a player picks the puck up on his stick, carries it around the net and throws the puck into the net. Sorry, goalie!

Gralenski, who also was selected sports person of the year by the Great Basin Conference for his play on Wood River’s varsity soccer team, has been practicing the move all winter and finally put it to use against a Brighton team from Utah in a hockey tournament in Idaho Falls.

It just so happens that Gralenski’s team—the Sun Valley U18 boys—was crowed state champions on Saturday, winning the Midget State Tournament, which brought 11 visiting teams to Campion Ice House. The Bantam A boys also won, while Sun Valley's Girls U19 lost in a hard-fought battle against Idaho Falls.

“Good year for Sun Valley Suns teams,” said Tristan Gralenski, a teacher with the Blaine County School District.

Tune in to today's Eye on Sun Valley’s video as Karen Bossick talks with DJ about his amazing new skill. And see his Michigan in slow mo.
