Meet the Forget-Me-Not, Phlox and More

Monday, June 28, 2021

As Jeanne Cassell tells it, the forget-me-not got its name when a knight fell in a raging creek while trying to pick the beautiful blue flower for his lady. As he was swept away, he threw the lovely flower on the bank at her feet and cried, “Forget me not!”

The forget-me-not was a favorite flower of English poets, as blue is a celestial color and also the color for the Virgin’s cloak. But, while they are lovely to look upon this time of year, forget-me-nots are memorable come fall for a not-so-nice reason. Find out just what that is when Eye on Sun Valley’s Lisa Horton takes to the trail to examine some of the local wildflowers.
