Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee has won a fistful of medals in the Golden Bean North American Roasting Competition for the fifth year in a row.
Ketchum’s online coffee retailer and wholesale supplier captured three bronze medals in the 2022 Golden Bean North America Roasting Competition and is competing in the first ever World Series Coffee Roasting Competition in Kona, Hawaii, this month.
Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee received bronze medals in three categories in the 2022 Golden Bean competition:
- Sunriser was honored in the Milk Category. “This is all about espresso plus milk,” said Liz Roquet, the president and founder of Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee. “Sunriser is just a dream when paired with milk in a cappuccino, latte, or macchiato, and it’s the coffee we always feature as our main offering in our coffee bar's espresso service.”
- Honduras El Caiman was honored in the Filter Brew Category. “This is the third growing season we've purchased coffee from farmer Jaime Ventura,” said Roquet. “His harvests boast a very dynamic and fruity opportunity, so when roasting we reach to highlight these flavors of strawberry and winey fruit. It’s great in a drip machine or manual pour over!”
- Ethiopia Arsosala was honored in the Espresso Category. “This coffee’s flavor profile is like a peach pie, so when roasting, our approach is to develop the caramel sweetness of the ‘pie crust’ and not override the tart-sweet notes of apricot and peach within. A shot of this espresso is a total delight!”
The Golden Bean is the world’s largest coffee roaster competition, with the event running 19 years in Australia. It’s now in its eighth competition year in North America. Coffees from top roasters in the United States and Canada were submitted for judging in various categories.
This is the fifth year that Lizzy’s has earned recognition, winning silver and bronze medals in past Golden Bean competitions. Lizzy’s sources top-quality Specialty Grade Arabica coffees from around the globe, including Certified Organic and Fairtrade coffees. Green coffees are roasted to order, creating an offering of freshly roasted coffees designed to please a range of sipping preferences with roasts that range from bright and fruity to sweet & rich to dark & toasty.
“We are truly grateful to the amazing farmers around the globe that cultivate beautiful coffees,” said Roquet. “It’s our goal to roast these coffees to their best potential for our customers to enjoy every day, so gaining industry awards for our roasts is a wonderful validation of our efforts.”
