Kali Fajardo-Anstine, the award-winning author of “Sabrina & Corina,” will give the keynote presentation at the closing of the community-wide Winter Read at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Community Library.

“Sabrina & Corina” was the book selected for the entire community to read during the valley’s Winter Read. The collection of short stories follows Latina women of indigenous ancestry as they strive to deal with things like a mother’s sadness brought on by multi-generational trauma.

“I am thrilled to visit beautiful Sun Valley,” said Fajardo-Anstine. “I can’t wait to visit this unique mountain community with its deep and rich indigenous and Latinx history.”

Martha Williams, the library’s programs and education director, noted that community members have ben delving into the stories in discussion groups and online.

“Kali’s visit brings this project to a close, but it will inspire more discoveries and connections for us,” she said.

Fajardo-Anstine is the author of the bestselling novel “Woman of Light,” a historical fiction that spans five generations of an indigenous Chicano family in the American West through a young tea reader and seamstress whose future is informed by the past as she tries to figure out who she is and what she wants in a deeply segregated Denver.

Her “Sabrina & Corina” was a finalist for the National Book Award and the PEN/Bingham Prize and was a winner of an American Book Award.

Faardo-Anstine is the 2022-24 Endowed Chair in Creative Writing at Texas State University, and her stories have been translated into numerous languages, including Japanese, Slovenian and Turkish.

To attend her talk in person, register at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/9720149. The talk will also be livestreamed and available to watch online at https://vimeo.com/event/2945590.

A book signing with Iconoclast Books will follow.
