Learn the differences between Alzheimer’s and dementia when the Hailey Public Library presents the second of its four-part series: Living with Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Carol Stephens will present “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Town Center West across from the library. The talk will be recorded for those who wish to watch it at www.haileypubliclibrary.org. It also will be available for later viewing on the library’s website.

“Alzheimer’s is a confounding disease of the brain with diverse cognitive, behavioral and physiological symptoms,” said the library’s programs and engagement manager Kristin Fletcher, “Dr. Carol will describe the differences between Alzheimer’s and dementia, explain disease stages and explore risk factors.”

Stephens described the 10 most common warning signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia earlier. On June 13 she will talk about how to respond respectfully and effectively to dementia-related behavior. She will conclude the series in July by discussing sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice and body language.

Stephens has worked as a psychologist for more than 35 years, during which time she has worked to help older adults and their families be intentional in planning for a future with quality of life until the end. She also specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, insomnia and mental health issues.

SENIOR CONNECTION CLOSED TEMPORARILY

The Senior Connection will be closed on Monday, May 22, as crews repair a gas line leak. All programs will be cancelled, including Meals on Wheels since the cooking staff will not be allowed in the kitchen until the leak is repaired.

The facility was ordered evacuated on Friday just as seniors were arriving for for a lunch of spaghetti and meatballs and tiramisu cake after someone smelled gas. The facility hopes to resume normal business hours on Tuesday.
