There’s nothing about running that a splash of color can’t make better.
Girls on the Run will stage their annual Color Me Fearless 5K on Saturday, June 3.
It’s a run that involves running through paint stations where cheerleaders with a mischievous glint in their eyes throw colorful paint powders on runners. Even the shyest girls can’t help but giggle as they get painted.
“Some of our girls don’t realize athletics can be so much fun. But they get pretty excited when they see the pink flying through the air. They want to get their hands on it, and douse their friends and themselves,” said Mary Fauth, the executive director of Girls on the Run.
The run—for both children and adults—will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3. Due to flooding in the Della View area of Hailey, this year’s Color Me Fearless will be held at Old Cutter’s Park in Hailey near the end of Myrtle Street.
Bib bag pickup and in-person registration will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 2, at KB’s Burritos in Hailey. Atkinson’s and KB’s will provide a free barbecue there in conjunction with the race.
There also will be activities, food by KB’s Burritos, vendors, live music by the Haywire Hopefuls, a Summer Camp expo and bubble ball fun following the race on Saturday.
Registration is $28 for adults and $15 for youth and seniors. Those who register in groups of four or more will get $5 off each individual registration.
Cost is $300 for a six-person corporate team, with the opportunity to win “Best Spirit” prizes from BCRD Fitworks, The Mill and more.
The event benefits Girls on the Run, which boasts 90 girls in its spring program representing Hemingway, Hailey, Alturas, Bellevue and Carey elementary schools.
Online registration is available at www.colormefearless.com. The price will increase on June 1 and again on race day.
KEEP ON RUNNING
Girls on the Run partnered this year with the Sun Valley Half Marathon to create a weekend-long running celebration called RunSunValley.com. Runners can run both races at a discounted rate.
The Sun Valley Half Marathon, a benefit for the Wood River YMCA, begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 4, at the Wood River YMCA in Ketchum. The loop-style course will follow the paved pedestrian path system, finishing back at the Y.
