“Trial By Fire”—a look at how global communities are adapting to flammable landscapes in the 21st century—will be the subject of a free presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the Limelight Hotel in Ketchum.
World-renowned fire scientist David Bowman from the University of Tasmania will talk about technology and policy that can create fire resiliency, helping communities to successfully survive wildfire.
The presentation, which is open to the public, is being held in conjunction with a two-day conference being presented by University of Idaho College of Natural Resources and Office of Research and Economic Development in conjunction with the and Sun Valley Institute.
The invitation-only conference is bringing together representatives of such organizations as the 5B Restoration Coalition, Idaho Conservation League and Ketchum Ranger District to learn how to fire-adapt the Wood River Valley.
“This promises to be an incredibly important opportunity both to learn from global leaders in fire resilience and to collaboratively continue to build local strategies and programs for greater fire resilience,” said Aimee Christensen, executive director of the Sun Valley Institute.
