They were born among the bluegrass-rich hills of Boulder County. And the five-piece Gipsy Moon folk band learned to play a range of music from folk melodies to retro Slavic moods to gypsy rhythms to jazz improv.
More recently, the group, which features banjo, guitar, mandolin, cello and percussion, released “Sticks and Stones,” an album that explores a world roots sound.
They’ll try it out on the Ketchum folk Tuesday, July 11, when they headline Ketch’em Alive. The free concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in Ketchum’s Forest Service Park at First and Washington streets.
No need to bring your own picnic, as vendors will be set up along Washington Street behind the Limelight Hotel. Among them: Grumpy’s, KB’s Burritos, Lewis Street Snacks, Smokey Bone Barbecue, Smoky Mountain Pizza, Sun Valley Brewery, Toni’s Ice Cream, Wiseguy Pizza and the Warfield Roadbar.
If you can’t wait, Tyia Wilson will entertain the Jazz in the Park crowd with her smoky vocals from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 9. She will be accompanied by pianist Demetrios Pappas and drummer Josh Kelly in Ketchum’s Rotary Park.
And Mahoney’s will feature the Dead Show featuring Grateful Dead favorites at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at its Main Street restaurant in Bellevue.
