Idaho Dance Theatre will present a free performance at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Ketchum Town Square.
The performance is presented by the Ketchum Arts Commission with support from the Idaho Commission on the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts.
“Be There or Be Square,” as the Boise dance company has dubbed it, includes
- Humorous duets to the jazz music of Frim Fram 4
- Thought-provoking pieces from “The Shift” performed to the intriguing music of Nine Inch Nails’ “Ghost”
- Theatrical sections from “Friends and Lovers,” the spoken words of Shakespeare’s Sonnets
- Contemporary Dance
- Hip Hop
- A site-specific work choreographed by Idaho Dance Theatre for the students from the Dance Tapestry workshop being held this week in conjunction with the Wood River Valley’s Footlight Dance Centre.
The performance will feature local favorite Yurek Hansen, who has dance with Idaho Dance Theatre for more than 14 seasons, in addition to Ballet Idaho, Seattle International dance Festival, Treefort and others.
Hansen is teaching at the Footlight Dance Centre’s Dance Tapestry workshop prior to the performance and will choreograph the local students who dance in this event.
There will be opportunities for audience interaction that will prove fun for the entire family, said Hilarie Neely, director of Footlight Dance Centre.
“Dance out there doesn’t happen very often,” she added.
Idaho Dance Theatre is led by its founders—the husband-wife duo of Marla and Alfred Hansen, who also teach theatre arts and dance at Boise State University. It collaborates with emerging and established artists.
Marla Hansen has choreographed more than 68 ballets for the company, working with composers, musicians, actors, designers and visual artists, Opera Idaho and Boise Philharmonic. Alfred Hansen serves as the company’s technical and lighting designer.
