Some of the finest professional skaters in the world will compete for the gold in their own battle of the blades Sunday evening on Sun Valley’s outdoor ice rink.
And the public is invited to watch the theatrics free of charge.
The competition will take place at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, July 23. It is expected to feature singles, group numbers, pairs and adagio numbers.
The competition is part of a three-day event put on by ProSkaters, an organization dedicated to educating professional figure skaters and others about the ins and outs of show skating and helping skaters connect to producers.
The skaters will get a chance to audition in front of the most prestigious casting directors in the ice show business from 6:50 to 8:50 p.m. Monday, July 24 in Sun Valley’s indoor rink. Those auditioning must be at least 16 years old and a member of ProSkaters.
Skaters will also take part in a workshop from 4 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, in the indoor rink. The workshop will cover everything skaters need to know about show skating. The cost to members of ProSkaters is $50. The cost to nonmembers: $110.
The ProSkaters Open takes place right after the conclusion of the 50th annual Sun Valley Summer Championships, which started Thursday. Amateurs participating in the Summer Championships will treat audiences to a free exhibition/competition of skate numbers choreographed to show tunes and pop and classical music Sunday afternoon on Sunday’s outdoor ice rink.
