Isabella Boylston and her fellow dancers will hold an educational day between their two performances in August to celebrate dance and inspire young dancers.

Some of the world’s most famous dancers will participate in a Day for Dance Education on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

They will offer classes in two levels of ballet experience, as well as a class in advanced variations on pointe and a class on jazz dance.

And Gemma Bond, who is choreographing one of Ballet Sun Valley’s two performances, will offer an introduction to ballet choreography.

“She’ll be talking about how the process of choreography works,” said Hilarie Neely, director of Footlight Dance Centre. “She’ll talk about how you choose your music, costumes and decide on the number of dancers.  She’ll discuss what the music’s telling you and how you figure out the beginning, middle and end.”

Day for Dance Education workshops will be free, thanks to a generous donor. And participating dancers will get a ticket to see one of the two performances.

Workshops will be offered to those 8 to 11 years of age, those 11 through 14 and those in high school and college.

“You never know what will click with dancers. Maybe something will kick one of them into the next realm, give them the confidence to say, ‘I can do this. I can become a professional dancer,’ ” said Neely.

Ballet Sun Valley, the Sun Valley Ballet School and Footlight Dance Centre will provide supervision during classes and performances.
