Where was the American Festival Chorus when you needed them?
Craig Jessup’s majestic chorus from Salt Lake City boomed their way through a soaring rendition of Verdi’s “Requiem” Thursday night as the Sun Valley Summer Symphony polished off its 2017 season.
If only they could have been there Friday to sing “Hallelujah!” as workers pulled the last of the orange barrels away from the middle lanes of the Big Wood Bridge.
Idaho Transportation Department finished the project just in the nick of time for the 30,000 to 60,000 visitors expected to make their way up Highway 75 en route to the Great American Eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21.
The bridge, originally projected to be finished in April 2017, features six pieces of artwork by former Sun Valley artist Kay Kirkpatrick meant to evoke Sun Valley’s natural and human history.
One, for instance, is a sculpted version of a snow fence found along roadsides and ski slopes across the west.
Another features multiple sets of spinning skis descending in a spiral commemorating Sun Valley’s history as America’s first destination ski resort.
