Do you play music?
If so, the Wood River Orchestra wants you.
The orchestra is gearing up for its 11th season with an introductory potluck from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at the Harker Center in Elkhorn.
And it’s looking for some new players as a few of its key members, including violin player Stephanie Cain, flute player Linda Staum and cellist Jim Watkinson, have moved away.
You don’t need to be a music wiz, as the orchestra is designed for those of all ages and abilities. But you must be able to read music and have had some previous experience. Orchestra members provide mentoring and help with instrument repair and things of that nature.
The Wood River Orchestra performs three concerts per year that are free to the public, with the first in November 2017. It also performs an annual fundraiser concert at Sawtooth Botanical Garden the last week of June.
Small ensembles from the group also play at various community events, such as the Community Library’s anniversary party, Wagon Days, the Heritage Court celebration, various events at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden and Souper Supper.
The orchestra rehearses from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays at the Wood River High School band room, with additional Thursday rehearsals from 6 to 8 p.m. at the time of concerts.
