Learn how seeds and seed vaults can bolster a burgeoning new economy tonight at Ketchum’s Community Library.
Bill McDorman, a Ketchum native and director of the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance, will discuss “Seeds and Seed Vaults as Economic Engines” during a free presentation at 6 tonight—Wednesday, Sept. 6.
McDorman will discuss how communities that have been developing locally adapted, delicious seed stock for the region’s cuisine are already reaping cultural and economic rewards.
He will also give examples of how communities are using seed exchanges, seed libraries and seed vaults to achieve economic goals.
“New and innovative economic engines will keep our communities prosperous and thriving,” said Belle Starr, deputy director of the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance.
The Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening seed sovereignty and food security through education, advocacy and network building. Since its founding in 2014, it’s spearheaded several local seed initiatives, including the Seed Stewards program, which equips individuals with the mean to grow and save seed varieties, and a series of Seed School courses.
The Community Library became the home of the Wood River Seed Library three years ago.
