Learn to skate—or, improve your skating—when the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club offers its popular “Skate With Us” classes this fall.
Group classes begin at 4:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, and continue through Friday, Dec., 8, with the exception of Friday, Nov. 24 during the Thanksgiving Weekend. Adult classes are also offered—last spring’s session featured more than 10 beginner and novice adult skaters.
Cost is $140 and includes ice time the day of the class, 25 minutes of group instruction weekly, one additional skate session each week and skate rental.
That’s more than a 50 percent savings from what it would cost for ice time and semi-private lessons.
The club will also offer
- A “Snowplow Sam” program for preschool children who are beginning ice skaters
- A Basic Skills program that teaches fundamental skills like forward and backward skating, stops, edges and crossovers, and
- A freeskate 1-6 program that addresses advanced skills like spins, dance/footwork sequences and jumps.
Scholarships are available.

The Figure Skating Club, now in its 77th year, is one of the oldest figure skating clubs in the United States. Recent alumni have gone on to compete nationally and at the collegiate level and to perform with professional ice school companies like Disney on Ice.
