Works by these musicians and others will be celebrated in St. Thomas Episcopal Church’s Fall Concert Series, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. October 29, November 5, and November 12.
Concerts will feature Joel Bejot, church organist at St. Thomas; Anna Majernikova, a mezzo-soprano who has performed with Opera Idaho, and Ellen Sanders, a cellist with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony.
Concerts are free, but a free will offering will be taken.
Here’s the lineup:
October 29, Joel Bejot, Organ Recital. "500th Anniversary of the German Reformation"
Works by J.S. Bach, Franck, Middelschulte, Boellmann, and Hamburger.
Joel is the Director of Music at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and has studied the organ at Concordia University, Seward, NE, and Denver University.
November 5, Anna Majernikova, Mezzo-Soprano Recital. "Songs of Faith and Home."
Works by Pergolesi, Handel, Brahms, and Martinu.
Anna has studied at the Conservatory for Music in Bratislava, Slovakia, and holds degrees from Boise State University. She has been on faculty and BSU, and has performed with Opera Idaho.
November 12, Ellen Sanders, Cello Recital. "Remembrances and Tradition."
Works by Albinoni and Cello Suite No. 5, J. S. Bach.
Ellen Sanders has been a longtime member of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, and has recently relocated to the Wood River Valley from the San Francisco area. She holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Additionally, St. Thomas is holding Choral Evensongs at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.
The tradition is a lovely way to give thanks for the ending of another day, said Bejot.
It evolved from the cathedrals in Europe and continues to this day.
“We invite people to drop in on the conversation between God and the church at these monthly gatherings,” said Bejot.
Admission is free although a freewill offering will be taken. A reception will follow each.
