Mezzo Soprano Anna Majernikova will perform at 5:30 tonight—Sunday, Nov. 5—as part of the Fall Concert Series at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Sun Valley Road.
Majernikova will perform “Songs of Faith and Home.” Included: Two arias from Handel, two songs from Brahms featuring Rebecca Martin on viola, and selections from Pergolesi and Martinu.
Majernikova, who moved to Sun Valley in 2007, started her vocal study at the Conservatory of Music in her hometown of Bratislava, Slovakia. She later studied voice at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava before finishing her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance at Boise State University.
She now serves as an adjunct vocal faculty member at BSU.
Anna became an Opera Idaho resident company artist in 2013 and performed the role of Mercedes in her Opera Idaho debut in Carmen” in 2014. Since, she has portrayed the role of Giovanna and covered the role of Maddalena in “Rigoletto,” in addition to performing the role of Larina in “Eugene Onegin” with Opera Idaho.
She has also appeared in the roes of Juno and Ino in the College of Idaho opera production of Handel’s “Semele” and been a soloist for J.s. Bach’s “Magnificat in D major” with the BSU combined Choirs and Symphony Orchestra.
Majernikova is an accomplished painter, as well.
The series launched with a performance by church organist Joel Bejot. It will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 12, when Sun Valley Summer symphony cellist Ellen Sanders performs.
