Sun Valley’s legacy among ski resorts has been recognized just as the resort prepares to embark upon its 82nd season.
POPSUGAR, a media platform specializing in entertainment, fashion, beauty and fitness, included the resort in its article “50 States of Winter Travel Destinations,” which touts an array of dazzling destinations for those with winter wanderlust.
“While the United States is home to an abundance of amazing ski resorts, none can match the rich history of Sun Valley,” writer Kathryn McLamb noted. “Serving as the nation’s first destination ski resort, as well as the world’s first chairlift, this town is where the very idea of an American ski vacation was born.”
The author touted Fairbanks, Alaska, for its northern lights; Jekyll Island, Georgia, for its oak trees draped in Spanish Moss; Des Moines, Iowa, for skywalks that keep visitors from having to walk in snow; Frankenmuth, Mich., for its Bavarian flair, and Ely, Minn., for its dog-sledding.
It also suggested travelers check out Windsor Ruins, Miss., which it likened to an American Stonehenge, and Sturgeon Bay, Wis., for its ice fishing.
“Don’t worry about the bone-chilling frigid temps,” McLamb wrote. “All shanties come with heaters!”
