Kick off your ski boots and slip on your dancing shoes.
The first Square and Contra Dance of the New Year will be held in Hailey on Saturday, Jan. 13.
Strings Attached will provide live music for the dance, which will start at 7 p.m. and run through 9:15 p.m. at the Hailey Grange Hall next to The Senior Connection and Hailey Fire Station on Third Avenue.
Caller David Quinley will walk dancers through the sequence of each dance, ensuring that everyone can take part no matter how experienced they are. You do not need to have a partner.
Expect English country dances, Scottish, Irish and French dance styles and even a mix of African, Appalachian and French-Canadian dancing.
The dance costs $10 for adults, $15 for a family and $5 for Grange members, payable at the door. It’s free for youngsters. A few people are welcome to volunteer to sweep and mop the floor following the dance in exchange for their entry fee.
An optional potluck dinner will be held ahead of the dance at 5:30 p.m. Those wishing to take part should bring a dish, as well as plate, fork and water bottle.
