Kate Bosworth, who recently starred in National Geographic’s “The Long Road Home,” will be honored at the 2018 Sun Valley Film Festival with the Pioneer Award.
Bosworth is the first female producer to receive the award, which will be presented by Nat Geo WILD at a private reception on Friday, March 16. She will also participate in the Nat Geo WILD’s Salon Series at Festival HQ.
Bosworth produced and appeared in “NONA,” a feature film focusing on the brutality of Central America’s sex trafficking industry. She will lead MGM’s upcoming post-apocalyptic drama, “The Domestics.” Other film credits include “Blue Crush,” “The Horse Whisperer,” “Straw Dogs” and “Superman Returns.”
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, known for his role as Cadillac on Baz Luhrman’s acclaimed series “The Get Down,” will be presented the second annual Rising Star Award for breakthrough talent in the film and television industry. He will receive the ward in a private reception and will participate in Nat Geo WILD’s Salon Series at Festival HQ.
Abdul Mateen II has also played opposite Dwayne Johnson in “Baywatch” and Hugh Jackman in “The Greatest Showman.” He is set to star alongside Jason Momoa as the Black Manta villain in DC’s upcoming “Aquaman.”
Lynn Shelton, who has directed several TV shows, including “Mad Men,” “The Mindy Project,” “Fresh Off the Boat” and “New Girl,” will receive the High Scribe Award and host the Screenwriters Lab sponsored by Variety on Saturday, March 17.
Academy Award-nominated producer Kevin Walsh, who has overseen such films as “Murder on the Orient Express,” “Bladerunner” and “All the Money in the World,” will judge the High Scribe screenplay competition. Walsh has been named one of Variety’s “10 Producers to Watch.”
Meanwhile, Indie Pop Band Sir Sly will headline the SVFF Awards Bash presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka on Saturday, March 17, at Whiskey Jacques. Led by Landon Jacobs, Hayden Coplen and Jason Suwito, Sir Sly has released two-full-length albums: “You Haunt Me” and “Don’t you Worry, Honey.”
Their hit single “Gold,” “You Haunt Me” and “High” have spent multiple weeks on Billboard, Sirius and Rock Airplay charts.
Gwyneth Paltrow will be the Festival’s Vision Award recipient, which will be presented Saturday, March 17 at the Roundhouse Restaurant on Bald Mountain. The Vision Award is awarded to an individual who has provided keen insight, influence and initiative to fulfill a creative vision. Past recipients, include Geena Davis, Clint Eastwood and Oliver Stone.
Paltrow will also take part in one of the three free Coffee Talks, which give the public a chance to ask questions of their favorite Hollywood filmmakers and actors.
Paltrow won Best Actress honors from the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her 1998 role in “Shakespeare in Love.” And she won an Emmy for Guest Actress in a Comedy series as a substitute teacher on “Glee.” Her song “Coming Home” from the soundtrack for “Country Strong,” was nominated for an Oscar.
Her film credits include “Proof,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination; “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” “Shallow Hal” and “Emma.”In addition, she has authored three New York Times Best Selling Cookbooks and co-written “Spain: A Culinary Road Trip” with celebrity chef Mario Batali following their PBS documentary “Spain…on the Road Again.”
The seventh annual Sun Valley Film Festival presented by Zions Bank will take place March 14-18. It will include intimate talks with industry insiders, film and TV screenings and parties.
