The Community School Theatre will be transformed into Grover’s Corners this week as Community School’s Upper School thespians bring Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning drama “Our Town” to the stage.

They will present the play with a modern-day contemporary twist tonight through Saturday, Feb. 24. Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, available at the door or in advance at the Community School’s Upper School office.

The play, first staged in 1938, portrays a small New Hampshire town where people grow up, get married, live and die. The milkman and newspaper arrive like clockwork. The neighbors perpetually gossip about nothing. And, well, two of the children fall in love and get married. And, then, the unthinkable happens when one of those children dies after just a few years of wedded bliss.

Director Kevin Wade noted that many consider the people, their relationships and the place as ordinary and humdrum.

“But for me the impulse is the opposite. This play is full of bright, electric moments—they may be small moments but they are the moments that shape us into who we are,”  he said.

Two dozen students make up the cast and crew.

Anik Zarkos is the stage manager, narrator, commentator and guide. Jasper Mott, the town doctor; Annabel Webster, Mrs. Gibbs; Lucy Moore, Mrs. Webb; Peter Morawitz, George Gibbs; Chloe Khosrowshahi, Emily Webb, and Joe Hall, Mr. Webb.

Other cast members include M. Clayton, Christine DuFur, Rye Fruehling, Tallulah Gilbreath, Sophie Harder, Ethan Hunt, Sofia Lodato, Samatha McKaige, Julia Ott, Sheady Slanetz, Nicholas Smith, Kennedy Watts and Levi Woods.

Set Designer is Jamey Reynolds. Students Oliver Guy and Keegan Webber designed lighting and rain effects, while fellow student Gabe Delgado will program the lights.
