Elvis was singing his “Heartbreak Hotel” as rock and roll began sweeping the world. Disposable diapers were beginning to appear in supermarkets. The average new house cost $11,700. Gas cost 22 cents a gallon. And, maybe, Starbucks might have been a mite cheaper, considering ground coffee cost just 85 cents a pound.
Also making its debut in 1956 was the Kindercup. And 62 years later it’s going as strong as ever.
The Papoose Club will hold their 62nd annual Kindercup Sunday, March 4, at Dollar Mountain.
Registration and bib pickup takes place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The races begin at 10:15 a.m.
Entry is free and open to non-sanctioned alpine skiers and snowboarders ages 3 through 12. Entrants are asked to pre-register online at http://papooseclub.org/kindercup-online-registration.
Pre-registration ends Friday, March 2. An awards ceremony for the top thee racers in each category will be held after the races.
There will not be a Nordic Cup this year due to the lack of snow, said Papoose Club member Louise Issacs.
The Paopoose Club holds the race in partnership with Sun Valley Company Race Department and the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. For information, visit www.papooseclub.org.
