It was just over a week ago that the greens keeper was blowing snow off the greens at Big Wood Golf Course.
The snow started falling a few days later.
Celebrate snow in all its glory at the 16th annual Sawtooth Ski Festival this weekend near Stanley.
The festival raises money to keep the ski trails around Alturas Lake and Park Creek groomed.
It will kick off on Saturday, March 3, at the Park Creek Ski Area seven miles west of Stanley on Highway 21. For a donation, skiers may ski a course picking up cards as they go. The winning hand will be called at 1:30 p.m. with a prize for the lucky card holder.
Everybody wins with the homemade chili and cookies that will be offered back at start.
Saturday evening snow lovers may come together from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for shopping in the form of a collection of silent auction items donated by local businesses, artists and others at the Stanley Community Building. You won’t go away hungry as Chef Pink will be serving up a mole chicken dinner.
The festival will wrap up on Sunday, March 4, with the Alturas Lake soup kitchen at the Alturas Lake ski area 20 miles south of Stanley on Highway 75.
Trailside soup, cookies and more will be offered about a mile in from the highway from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
