Trinity School students are getting ready to parade through a whirlwind of the world’s great stories from that of Abraham and his beloved son Isaac to the mythological tale of Thor.
The students at the Waldorf-inspired school are presenting four short plays drawn from their Waldorf curriculum at 6 p.m. Friday, March 16.
The public is welcome to view the kid-friendly plays at the school, 31 Lower Broadford Road in Bellevue.
The plays are short 15- to 20-minute vignettes for which the children have created costumes and helped craft the action of the plays.
“Part of the Waldorf curriculum involves the mythology and history of different cultures,” said Teacher Travis Scott. “The third grade listens to stories from the Hebrew legends. The fourth grade hears the Norse myths. The fifth grade moves from Ancient India through Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt and Greece. And the sixth grade studies Rome into the Middle Ages.
“Abraham and Isaac” focuses on the drama that ensued when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac.
“Thor’s Wedding,” which is more humorous, follows Thor as he pretends to be Freyja, the most beautiful of the goddesses, in order to get back his stolen hammer.
“Athena’s Triumph” recalls the birth of Athena out of Zeus’ head and how she and Poseidon argued over who should guide the village that becomes Athens.
“Horatius at the Bridge” portrays the legend of Horatius defending the bridge in Ancient Rome, using dialogue taken from Lord Macaulay’s poem “Horatius at the Bridge.”
“The rhythm of this one is quite striking and the children perform the poem almost in its entirety,” said Scott.
Admission is free. Reservations for seating can be made by emailing mrtwscott@gmail.com.
