The Sun Valley Center for the Arts and the Sawtooth Botanical Garden will join hands to offer “Beekeeping for Beginners” at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden.
The Creative Jump-in class will be presented in partnership with Magic Valley Beekeepers, a group of honey farmers and “wanna-bees” in Twin Falls. The Beekeepers stage get-togethers to share information and ideas on beekeeping.
Thursday’s workshop will teach the basics of backyard beekeeping from buying honeybees and constructing a hive to harvesting honey and preventing bee swarming. Participants will also learn how to create a pollinator-friendly garden and learn about various types of bees, including solitary bees that do not live in a community.
“It’s a great opportunity to get to know your bees and your garden better,” said Sarah Stavros, education associate at The Center.
Cost of the workshop is $10 for members of The Center and/or Sawtooth Botanical Garden and $12 for nonmembers. For information, visit www.sunvalleycenter.org or call 208-726-9491.
