The Egyptian feline goddesses—Sehkmet and Bast—will serve as the launching pad for tonight’s monthly meeting of The Joseph Campbell Foundation Mythological RoundTable of Ketchum.
The free discussion open to the public will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Light on the Mountains Spiritual Center, just north of the Sawtooth Botanical Garden on Highway 75 south of Ketchum.
Dr. Jan Peppler, who has a PhD in mythological studies and depth psychology, will make a brief presentation on the felines, then open the group for a broader discussion.
Sekhmet is considered both a warrior goddess and a goddess of healing. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians
Bast, the daughter of Ra the Sun God, was the ancient Egyptian goddess of cats and protection, which she provided for the pharaoh.
Mythological RoundTable groups are designed for people with an interest in all things mythological. They exist all over the world, with 33 in the United States.
The local chapter has been meeting since August 2015.
