Learn how you can prevent summer reading loss when Bellevue Elementary School hosts an Ice Cream Social and Summer Literacy Fair.
The event especially designed for parents and students will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the school at 305 N. 5th St. in Bellevue.
The event is sponsored by 5B Reads, a new coalition of schools, libraries, businesses and civic groups from Blaine County that are inviting citizens to help grow a love of readying and improve literacy in Blaine county.
Also at the event will be representatives from Cox Communications, the mobile library Bloom Truck, Overdrive, Wood River Middle School, Hailey Public Library, Bellevue Library, Community Library, Environmental Resource Center and Music n’ Me, according to Gloria Wieand, the Blaine County School District’s lead elementary reading teacher on special assignment.
One of every three students in the Blaine County School District are not yet reading at grade level. The long-term effects of low literacy can impact health, employment and financial security for individuals and communities.
