Saturday’s concert featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sutton Foster launched Sun Valley Opera’s Summer Festival, which will include a concert featuring Motown music and a free family concert featuring tunes by John Denver and others.
2018 SUMMER FESTIVAL LINEUP:
- 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 16—Signature Salon Concert starring Soprano Jessica E. Jones accompanied by Sean Rogers. Jones will be in the world premiere of “The (R) evolution of Steve Jobs” with the Santa Fe Opera.
The intimate concert and cocktail party will be held in the home of Carole Lewis and Ted Walczak and will feature opera and pop songs, such as Giacomo Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro” and George Gershwin’s “I’ve Got Rhythm.” Tickets are $150, available by calling Sun Valley Opera at 208-726-0991 or going to www.sunvalleyopera.com.
- 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Sun Valley Opera will present a free family concert featuring Avenue B on the lawn by the pond in Sun Valley Resort. Concertgoers are invited to bring a picnic as they listen to a trio featuring John Mauldin, Leslie Mauldin and Jed Mosssing such songs as Leonard Bernstein’s “Somewhere,” John Denver’s “Calypso,” John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s “Yellow Submarine” and James Taylor’s “That Lonesome Road.”
- 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 Diva Party for “The Temptations Tribute” will be held at 319 River Run Drive. It will include a hosted cocktail party in a private home and premier seating in the Sun Valley Pavilion for the Aug. 31 concert. Tickets are $175, of which $75 are tax deductible. SUN VALLEY OPERA’S 2019 WINTER FESTIVAL will feature Kate Aldrich, who is hailed as “the Carmen of this generation,” on Dec. 28 in the new Argyros Performing Arts Center; Michael Fabiano in Concert on Feb. 3; Emmett O’Hanlon from Celtic thunder on Feb. 18, and Heather & Derrick Parker and the BYU Orchestra on March 16.
The MET: Live in HD will start Oct. 6 at the Bigwood Theatre in Hailey and will include 10 performances through May 11, including Saint-Saens’ “Samson and Delilah,” Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Bizet’s “Carmen” and Wagner’s “Die Walkure.”
