Kneeland Gallery’s plein air painters are taking their show to the Draper Preserve today.
Ten artists will paint at the Draper Preserve in Hailey from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today—Wednesday, Aug. 1—as part of the Ketchum gallery’s 27th annual Plein Air Exhibition.
Spectators are invited to watch them at work and quiz them about their different techniques.
On Thursday, Aug. 2, the painters will set up their easels around the iconic red barn on Sun Valley Road.
And on Friday, the artists will partake in a Quick Draw where they work on quick sketches from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the pond in front of the Sun Valley Inn.
Later Friday evening the artists will gather at the Kneeland Gallery, 271 N. 1st Ave. in Ketchum, where visitors will be able to smell the paint drying as the artists show all the works they painted over the three days. The reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the August Gallery Walk featuring new works in Ketchum’s galleries.
This year’s plein air painters are Steven Lee Adams, Ovanes Berberian, Jack Braman, John Horejs, Shanna Kunz, Lori McNee, Caleb Meyer, Robert Moore, Silas Thompson and Bart Walker.
Keri Hansen spent quite a bit of time watching the painters last year, especially Sun Valley painter Lori McNee.
“I took a huge leap under Lori,” she said. “I learned, for instance, to see the colors in nature I hadn’t seen before—like the lavender tint to what’s out there.”
