San Francisco attorney, activist and scholar Ephraim Margolin will speak on “When Israel Was Young” at 12:30 p.m. today--Saturday, Aug. 4--at the office of the Wood River Jewish Community.
The office is located at 471 Leadville Ave. across from Atkinsons’ Market in Ketchum.
Margolin, the father of Alex Margolin and the grandfather of Jack Margolin, was born in Berlin and raised in Poland and Tel Aviv. There one of his house guests was a young Polish refugee named Menachem Begin.
He served with the Irgun in Israel’s War for Independence and was secretary to Irgun leader Begin. He is past president of the San Francisco Jewish Community Relations Council.
His most recent book is “Philosophy of Early Zionism.”
“He lived in Israel before it was Israel. So it’s really interesting to listen to his point of view,” said Alex Margolin.
