Sun Valley Ballet is holding aTacos for Tutus fundraiser to benefit the school’s scholarship fund.
The community feed will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Ketchum Town Square Plaza.
It’ll cost $25 for three tacos and a mug of beer in a special glass or $10 for three tacos.
Caterer Nadina Keller, a longtime employee of Cristina’s is cooking up the tacos.
A DJ will provide music and dancers from the studio will provide periodic demonstrations. One of the teachers will also lead attendees in dance.
Everyone, men included, are encouraged to wear tutu, as there will be prizes.
The Sun Valley Ballet School was founded 40 years ago in 1978—back when a gallon of gas cost 79 cents, “grease” was all the rage and Jim Jones was instructing the People’s Temple of Jonestown to drink the punch.
Sun Valley Ballet’s goal is to provide high-level dance instruction and performance opportunities via ongoing classes and workshops featuring guest instructors. Each year between 75 and 140 dance students take part. About half rely on scholarships to enable them to participate.
The school is looking forward to new leadership under “an amazing director” who has yet to be named, said the school’s Nadia Hirner.
