They say it’s slack, but there’s no shortage of things to do Friday evening in the Wood River Valley.
- Free Skate Night will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Campion Ice House. The Hailey ice rink opened for the winter season on Monday.
- Sounds of September, a free concert series organized by the City of Ketchum, will conclude with Rebecca Scott and Debbie Sager performing from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ketchum Town Square.
- And A Cabaret Evening with jazz-punk-classic singer Storm Large will take place at 6 and 9 p.m. at the Sun Valley Opera House.
That concert is sponsored by the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
Storm Large is a frequent guest vocalist with Pink Martini, which has played Sun Valley before. She also has appeared with k.d. lang, George Clinton and the BBC Symphony.
Large shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show “Rock Star: Supernova.” After playing clubs throughout San Francisco, she gained a cult following in Portland. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2013 singing Weill’s “Seven Deadly Sins” with the Detroit Symphony.
Her cabaret show features love songs and stories—sometimes titillating, sometimes beautiful and familiar. Large’s latest album, “Le Bonheur,” features songs by Cole Porter, Black Sabbath, Randy Newman and Jacque Brel. Among them: “I’ve Got You Under my Skin.”
The early show is expected to be tamer but may include adult content and is recommended for those 17 and older. The late show, dubbed as “Storm Unleashed,” is guaranteed to include adult content and strong, but humorous. language.
