Hailey Mayor Fritz Haemmerle is looking for an interested citizen to fill a city council seat following the resignation of one of its members.
Colleen Teevin, owner of the Cloverstone Bakery in Bellevue, announced her resignation during Monday’s city council meeting. She said that since she was elected three years ago, many things in her personal and professional life had changed leading her to step down.
The mayor is authorized by Idaho law to appoint a qualified resident to fill a vacant city council seat. Haemmerle said he plans to present an appointment within a month to city council members who will vote on the nomination.
Haemmerle said he is open to interviewing any resident of Hailey who has the interest and the energy for the position.
“Let’s have a conversation,” he said.
The appointee will serve until the next city election in November 2019. At that time, the appointee may cast his or her hat in the ring against any challenger.
Those wishing to be considered for the city council seat must have resided within Hailey city limits for at least 30 days. They must be 18 or older and they must be U.S. citizens.
