The Sun Valley Opera House will turn into the Hot Club of France on Tuesday when Rhythm Future Quartet brings its Gypsy jazz to Sun Valley.
The acoustic jazz ensemble will kick off the Sun Valley Center for the Arts’ 2018-19 Winter Performing Arts Series at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.
The foursome, named for a tune by Gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, plays Gypsy jazz with a contemporary twist. They play Gypsy Jazz standards and original compositions that draw from diverse international rhythms.
The latter are reflected in their latest recording “Travels,” which was picked as one of the best jazz albums of 2016 by All About Jazz and the Huffington Post.
“They exemplify the fun atmosphere that the music carries and double down with their virtuosic playing,” said Kristine Bretall, director of Performing Arts at The Center. “These guys really swing!”
The players are violinist Jason Anick, an award winning composer and a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston; guitarist Olli Soikkeli, a Scandinavian now living in New York City; guitarist Max O’Rourke, winner of the 2015 Saga Award from DjangoFest Northwest, and bass player Greg Loughman, a top call guitarist in the Brooklyn jazz scene.
As part of The Center’s commitment to enhancing arts education for local students, the performers will work with students in local schools.
Tickets for Center members are $25 for regular seating and $50 for premium seating, available at www.sunvalleycenter.org. They’re $35 and $60 for nonmembers. Tickets for students 18 and under are $12.50 and $25.
