Learn to sniff out the red flags in your very own blood work when Dr. Maria Maricich presents a free workshop on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Maricich will present the workshop “Be Your Own Health Detective” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at her office on the third floor of the Gail Severn Gallery building at 131 4th St.
Maricich specializes in functional medicine, which involves identifying and addressing the root causes of diseases. She says oftentimes people are told that their blood work looks great only to discover there may be several aspects that were missed.
Sometimes, values are okay according to the lab normal, a set of numbers that describes what is normal for any given marker in the blood. But they may be less than optimal viewed from a functional standpoint, she said.
“They can be addressed using diet, supplements or modifying lifestyle,” she added.
Maricich says scrutinizing the blood work closely can help determine what is going out of balance before a disease pattern appears so the person in question can work on preventing problems, rather than waiting to address them when they become a problem.
