Meet “The Horse, the Maiden and the Queen” in the night sky when the Sawtooth Botanical Garden offers yet another astronomy lecture and viewing.
The Astronomy at the Garden lecture will feature Tim Frazier, local astronomy buff and president of the Magic Valley Astronomical Society.
He will lead off the evening with a lecture at 7 p.m. inside the SBG headquarters, four miles south of Ketchum at Highway 75 and Gimlet Road.
Then, weather permitting, participants will head out to observe “Oh Wow!” celestial wonders with the help of Frazier’s magnanimous telescope.
They will include the constellation Virgo, which is known as the Maiden and the goddess of the harvest. It is the largest constellation of the Zodiac.
Cassiopeia the Queen resides not far from the North Star during October and early November. The constellation was named after a beautiful queen in Greek mythology whose vanity caused her to be bound to a chair to revolve forever around the north celestial pole—sometimes upside down.
The class is limited to 35 participants and preregistration with payment is required. Those who have them are encouraged to bring binoculars and spotting scopes
Cost is $10 for SBG members and $12 for nonmembers. Children under 16 will be admitted free.
