The Wood River Women’s Foundation is growing so fast, even its president can’t keep up with it.
Peggy Grove had no sooner announced the philanthropic organization had grown to 370 members than her membership director corrected her: It now stands at 378.
About half of those women recently enjoyed their Christmas social at Penny Weiss’ lovely modern home over Poinsettia drinks made with pomegranate seeds and juice and triple sec, Peppermint Christmas drinks made with white crème and peppermints, and Winter White drinks made with orange bitters and orange juice.
“We’ve made some major accomplishments since 2006 giving over $2 million in grants to a variety of causes including emergency services, summer learning for at-risk children, transportation for seniors and horses for people with developmental disabilities, and services for domestic abuse victims,” said Grove.
“What we will fund this year I’m excited to find out. It will be like the unwrapping of a gift under the grants tree,” she added.
The foundation holds a number of educational and social events throughout the year. Women will hear from grant finalists on March 5.
The foundation is open to any woman in the community. For more information, visit www.woodriverwomensfoundation.org.
