What is Ireland’s greatest institution?
A lot of you just might say the Irish pub.
Now a documentary film aptly named “The Irish Pub” celebrates the Irish pub and the interesting characters who own and run the establishments.
The film will be shown at 4:30 and 7 p.m. tonight—Thursday, Jan. 10—at the Magic Lantern cinemas in Ketchum as part of The Sun Valley Center for the Arts current BIG IDEA project “At the Table: Kitchen as Home.”
The film made by award-winning Irish filmmaker Alex Fegan, introduces viewers to pub owners who are running pubs that have been in their families for generations. And it shows how many see them as an escape from the doldrums of day-to-day life.
“While for some people the home kitchen may be the anchor to family and friends, for others a pub and its publican may be their ‘home kitchen’—the place where they feel most comfortable and find their own version of family,” said Kristine Bretall, director of Performing Arts at The Center.
“This film will make you wish for a local bar right down the street that would welcome you every time you walked in!” she added.
Tickets are $10 for Center members and $12 for nonmembers, available at www.sunvalleycenter.org , by calling 208-726-9491 or at The Center’s box office at 191 Fifth Street East in Ketchum.
