You might want to look under your car next time you head out for a drive.
Or not.
The Blaine County Sheriff reported that Ketchum Police were called to the Hemingway Condos on Picabo Road in Ketchum at about 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon after someone spotted a mountain lion hiding under a vehicle.
The area is heavily trafficked during the ski season, especially on a Sunday afternoon during President’s Day Weekend, which drew more than 6,500 skiers to Bald and Dollar mountains Saturday and Sunday.
Idaho Fish and Game officials were called to the scene and helped coax the animal away from the area.
The lion left. But officials noted there is evidence of fresh deer kills nearby so it’s likely the mountain lion won’t go far.
To be on the safe side, officials set up a trap in at least one resident's yard.
Heavy snows during the past few weeks have pushed deer and elk into neighborhoods where they’re just hanging out. And where deer and elk go, mountain lions follow.
