Award-winning New York actor and director Paul Lazar has acted in more than 30 feature films, including “Mickey Blue Eyes,” “Silence of the Lambs,” “Lorenzo’s Oil” and “Philadelphia.”
He’s the founding member and co-artistic director of the internationally acclaimed Big Dance Theater and part of the iconic New York experimental theater The Woodster Group. He’s directed a number of plays, including Christina Masciotti’s “Social Security” at the Bushwick Starr in 2015. And he has taught in the Theatre, Dance and Media Department at Harvard University, as well as at New York University, Yale and Rutgers.
Now, he’s in Sun Valley to direct John Patrick Shanley’s “Outside Mullingar,” which will take place April 3 through 7 at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum. And he will talk about his career and the craft of acting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Argyros.
Lazar will present slides of his work and perform part of his one-man show about composer John Cage as part of the free talk.
“To thrive, and survive, as an artist in New York City, and no doubt elsewhere, one must cobble together many artistic enterprises,” said Lazar. “For the past 27 years I have had a dance/theatre company called Big Dance Theater that has performed in various high-profile venues in New York City, throughout the United States and Europe. And I have had the good fortune of enjoying a bit of a commercial career, as well, acting in many feature films, TV shows and Off-Broadway, as well as on Broadway.”
